1927

Company Founded

Owen Robertson Cheatham founded Georgia Hardwood Lumber Company in Augusta, Georgia, with initial capitalization of $12,000. The company operated a single sawmill processing 50,000 board feet daily.

1956

Entry into Paper Products

Acquired Crossett Lumber Company, entering the pulp and paper business. This marked our expansion beyond lumber into consumer and commercial paper products that would define our future.

1982

Professional Division Established

Created Georgia-Pacific Professional division to focus exclusively on away-from-home tissue and dispensing solutions, recognizing the unique needs of commercial and institutional markets.

2000

Acquired Fort James Corporation

$11 billion acquisition of Fort James expanded our tissue business and added iconic brands including Brawny® and Quilted Northern®. Deal completed November 2000, creating the world's largest tissue producer.

2005

Joined Koch Industries

Acquired by Koch Industries for $21 billion (transaction closed December 23, 2005). This partnership provided long-term stability and resources to accelerate innovation and sustainability investments.

2012

Launched enMotion® Technology

Introduced revolutionary automated paper towel dispensers with touch-free operation, controlled dispensing, and stub roll features that reduced waste by up to 30%.

2019

Expanded Envision® Recycled Line

Significantly broadened our sustainable product portfolio with 100% recycled fiber options across tissue, towel, and napkin categories. EcoLogo certification obtained March 2019.

2024

Smart Dispenser Integration

Launched IoT-enabled dispensers with real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance alerts, and usage analytics. Pilot program deployed across 250 facilities June-December 2024.
